About Us
Parati Competitive Rowing is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Club located in The Woodlands, Texas. We are a co-ed youth sculling and sweeping team that trains rigorously year round and competes at local, regional, and national levels. Parati is 60 rowers strong from grades 8-12.
Our comprehensive training program combines blade work, weights, conditioning and discipline to produce exceptional results. Parati had 6 boats qualify at the Central Youth Rowing Championships in OKC for the 2016 US Rowing Youth Nationals being held in Princeton, NJ in June. In total Parati has qualified 19 boats for Youth Nationals; this is remarkable for a team in only its fourth year.
Our Head Coach, Mike Rosman, was a Big Ten wrestler and world stage competitor. His vision is to develop each athlete to their full potential, in character as well as rowing. He leads by example; his dedication and commitment to this team are evident in the countless volunteer hours he devotes to its success. His wife, Jan, volunteers her time managing administrative aspects of the team and creating a fun social environment for the rowers.
Parati Competitive Rowing was established in 2012 to give youth rowers the opportunity to pursue excellence in sport as well as personal development, and is entirely coached and managed by volunteers. At its inception Parati had no equipment, no boathouse, and no funds; what it had was a dedicated volunteer coach and a group of high school kids determined to achieve success.
Throughout its inaugural year, Parati used Coach Mike’s house as its “boathouse.” All boats, oars, slings, and a safety launch were stored at his home in East Shore. Rowers launched from Merhorse Park on Lake Woodlands and lifted weights in the Rosman’s yard. Parati now rows from Northshore Park.
Many Parati graduates continue their rowing success in college. Parati graduates have gone on to row at MIT, Villanova, Dartmouth, Williams College, OKC University, University of San Diego, the Naval Academy, Florida Institute of Technology, and Baylor University.
Parati is also committed to expanding the reach of this great sport. To that end we conduct events that educate the public and promote rowing opportunities to diverse populations, including indoor rowing competitions and free erg clinics for adaptive athletes. We are entirely a volunteer organization devoted to the success of our youth members and invested in giving back to our community.
Parati is more than a team! We are a family who has a lot of fun together. Our rowers gather regularly for social events such as BBQs, our Talent Show, movie nights and pool parties. As Coach Mike says, “It’s easier to go that extra mile in training when you are in the company of friends.”
