Parati, the only Houston team to qualify any boats to US Rowing Youth Nationals, secured 6 bids at the Central Regional Championship regatta in OKC on May 4-5. Winning gold, and a Regional Championship title, were Andre Shellum-Gonzalez and Spencer Sakal in the Men’s 2-. Also winning gold was the Women’s lightweight 8+ in a stunning 22 second lead over 2nd place. Brooke Hadix coxed the 8+, with Veronica Attar, Paige Blackwell-Frank, Peyton Blackwell-Frank, Sofia Glaser, Lauren Jablonski, Grace Keen, Molly Miller, and Genesis Pieri. This crew boasted 3 8th graders, a remarkable accomplishment for rowers so young. Kory Rogers captured a bronze in the Men’s 1x, and Emma Hulsewe and Clare Reilly qualified in the Women’s 2-. The Men’s 4+, with coxswain Will Lawrence, will race at Youth Nationals with Landon Blackwell-Frank, Taylor Broussard, Roan Dhanjal, and Alan Jones. The Men’s 2x also received a bid, but those rowers are committed to race in the 4+. These exceptional athletes will travel to Bradenton, Florida for Youth Nationals in June to face the best rowers in the country.
